Programs Impacted by your Support
Launching School and Community Programs
We want to introduce the First Tee program into youth organizations and schools all over Puerto Rico. This program is specially designed for kids and teens and provides opportunities for physical education classes, Boys & Girls Clubs, and other youth-serving groups. With the First Tee, young people learn invaluable life skills, such as honesty, integrity, and leadership while also learning the game of golf. We believe this program will positively impact Puerto Rican youth by providing them with a unique experience that develops character and prepares them for life. By 2024, we plan on opening these programs at 6 different locations around Puerto Rico.
Launching On the Golf Course Programs
As participants from the School & Community Programs progress, it is essential we are also able to provide those interested with the option of attending On the Golf Course Programming within a reasonable distance from their school or home municipality. There, they can continue building their skills among a diverse group of kids and with more personalized attention from golf professionals and staff dedicated to learning their needs and interests. Our trained coaches not only provide an introduction to junior golf and an opportunity to enhance golf skills, but they also create a safe, supportive, and empowering environment to help participants prepare for life ahead, including friendships, school, college and even their careers. First Tee – Puerto Rico will provide mentorship, play time on the golf course, and other curriculum related activities to participants.
Developing our Coaches
As First Tee – Puerto Rico grows, so has its staff. We have been fortunate enough to have started with a small but mighty team, dedicated to the mission of teaching kids golf and the values intrinsic to the game. To continue delivering quality services to kids from a diversity of backgrounds and with a diversity of functional needs, our team needs to access professional development and educational opportunities. Our focus for the next year is to have one of our lead coaches progress within First Tee Coach Training so they may train incoming coaches locally, thus reducing the cost and effort incurred in training new coaches. Aside from First Tee Coach Training and SafeSport, our staff must also receive additional training to best serve participants with special needs.
Sponsoring Individual Golf Lessons for Participants
We have already witnessed great potential in our participants in Dorado which we cannot ignore. This is why we have decided to set aside funds to offer individual, professional golf training to promising students without the means to fund private classes themselves. Our Lead Coaches will be in charge of making these recommendations.
